Walsteds is engaged in the renovation and repair of boats. Since the beginning of 1949, quality and craftsmanship, as well as close contact with customers, have been the hallmarks of the yard.
The yard employs around 15 people, many of whom have been at the yard for over 25 years. The employees' many years of experience means that they work independently to a large extent, and they are often the ones who have direct contact with the customer, which many customers appreciate.
At Walsteds, craftsmanship is paramount. In addition to trained boatbuilders and carpenters, the yard has its own blacksmith and fitter's workshop that takes care of engine repairs, technical installations and the manufacture of individual fittings for both deck and rigging. The yard uses only the highest quality materials. In addition, the shipyard has a close and long-standing collaboration with subcontractors on selected tasks.
Walsteds is authorized to carry out construction and repair of GRP vessels.
Since 1949, around 200 boats have been built and launched from the Thurø shipyard.
Shipbuilding started on Thurø in 1853
Aage Walsted bought the land in 1949 and has since built around 200 boats, mostly sailboats and smaller racing boats like Dragons and 5.5 meters.
Since the late fifties, luxury boats have been built at the shipyard.
The collaboration with Danish/American designer K.Aage Nielsen and later Sparkman & Stephens played a crucial role in the shipyard's future. Boats were now being built for customers all over the world.
Aage Walsted
With his background as a cabinetmaker and boat builder, Aage Walsted established Walsted's Boatyard in 1949 at the age of 27. With just 2 employees, the yard started building junior boats and dinghies.
It didn't take long for boat owners to discover the beauty of the newly built boats. Soon after, both the Dragon and 5 meter boats were built at the shipyard.
In 1953, Aage Walsted was respected both at home and abroad, and had a reputation for beautiful and solid work. But then something happened that shouldn't have happened; the construction hall burned down. However, the shipyard was quickly rebuilt, and with a significantly larger hall where larger boats could now be built.
